Adobe Survey Finds We Are Addicted to Email

Oct. 3, 2016 – Adobe releases findings from an annual survey that suggest email marketing isn’t dead! (To be honest, I never thought it was dead 😉 )

If you don’t already, use this as your opportunity to create a killer strategy for email marketing in 2017! Your readers will appreciate receiving a mobile optimized, personalized, perfectly timed, and relevant email.

Facebook Launches Marketplace

Oct. 3, 2016 – Just launched today, Facebook introduces convenient (Craigslist/Kijiji-like) marketplace / digital garage sale. And why wouldn’t they–when more than 450 million people visit these buy and sell groups each month?

Marketplace is currently available to select countries (US, UK, Australia and New Zealand) and will be rolling out to the rest of the world in the coming months. While I don’t imagine it being too “friendly” for REAL businesses (as you already can set up a Facebook Shop), you could use this opportunity to get rid of some of the clutter laying around your office…

Google Plans to Penalize Popups

Google is always trying to help users find the best answer in the quickest way possible.

Recently they announced on their blog “…after January 10, 2017, pages where content is not easily accessible to a user on the transition from the mobile search results may not rank as highly.”

Facebook Tests Messenger Day

Sept. 30, 2016 – You snooze you loose? TechCrunch reports that Facebook launched Snapchat-esque Stories format for Messenger. For most of us, though, it doesn’t really matter (yet) as it has only rolled out a small test in Poland.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t dabble in this off-the-cuff, life casting content. In Canada, you can broadcast on Snapchat or Instagram stories, you can broadcast behind the scenes tales, provide access to live events, etc.

Twitter Rolls Out Moments

Sept. 28, 2016 – A little while ago, Twitter started Moments–curated, complete stories through a collection of the best tweets, memes, pictures, videos, headlines. Recently, they publicly rolled-out moments to select countries (Canada, US, UK, Australia, Brazil, Mexico).

Moments allows you to tell your story in a compelling, dynamic, and new way. You could create a moment based on an event or workshop you’re hosting, curating QA sessions and Twitter chats, or showcasing your brand with a “day-in-the-life” type collection of tweets.

For tips & tricks for making a great Moment see Twitter’s Moment.

Google Closes the Loop

Sept. 25, 2016 – In the coming months, Google Adwords will be rolling out innovative new ways for you to engage with your consumers.

Features will include location extensions for ads to increase foot traffic in store as well as cross-device remarketing to help tell your story and to reach the same consumer across multiple devices, apps, and websites.

Google Algorithm Update – Penguin

Sept. 23, 2016 – Google announces an update to Penguin, one of 200 search engine ranking signals.

Penguin, which devalues spammy link building and penalizes sites for manipulative SEO tactics, is now running in real-time, as a part of Google’s core algorithm. This means the bots will crawl sites faster and either boost or penalize websites more instantly, as a result.

Until next Tuesday…

Hopefully, these news bytes will help you keep your online presence in tip top shape! If you love these updates, please share it with your friends on Facebook!
