Just like any design-related industry, design trends constantly change. And the graphic web design industry is no different. Therefore, it’s important (extremely important if you’re a web design agency!) you know what is taking place within the industry and what trends have come and gone in the past few months.
As a graphic web design agency we’re usually on-the-ball when it comes to spotting new design trends, but as a regular Joe are you? If you’re in the process of getting a new website designed, then it’s important to us that you’re aware of what’s new in the web design world.
So, without further ado, here are 5 graphic web design trends you might have missed or been unaware of, and how they are improve your current or future website.
Fonts and Typefaces
In all honestly the text or font of a website does not often receive all that much attention. However, one element that has come about in the world of graphic website design is non-generic typography. In other words, the website designer actually customizes and creates specific text for the website. This way, the text can directly reflect the website, the information provided and even the services your company offers.
Altered and edited text styles do not have to be outlandish, but it simply adds a new element to your website and is definitely a growing trend in graphic web design.
Flat Design
For a while, most websites used shading and other elements to make everything seem to “pop-out” at you. However, this particular style is dying as most new websites are now going with a clean, flat, and streamlined look. This makes everything simple, yet easy to identify. In fact Apple moved to this increasingly popular graphic web design trend in its latest iOS release. However, they were a little late joining this party since other companies started using this type of design a while back.
Mobile Focus
Up until 2 years ago, most graphic web design agencies simply created different website versions for both desktop and mobile devices. However, with the introduction of responsive web design in late 2011, it is now becoming easier to create a single website that appears unified on all platforms. This is especially easier (as well as time saving) for both web design agencies and clients, as only one website has to be created.
This shift towards mobile is increasing since the majority of Internet users access online content using their mobile devices. So, responsive web design is certainly a graphic web design trend that should be considered when creating or updating your website.
Video Over Text
Video has long proven to be a desirable element to have on your website, as it helps entertain the viewer. And if truth be told (and I’m sure you all agree with this), many visitors would rather watch a responsive web design describing what a business does instead of reading through pages and pages of content to find out the exact same info.
However, many websites are now actually using this graphic web design trend and showcasing videos instead of offering text at all. This helps keep a clean design on the website, reduces the amount of text and still informs you of all the information you wish to know.
Continually Scrolling Sites
This is something you might have noticed in the past 12 months, but many websites now have an almost continually scrolling website. This means, instead of just scrolling down a small amount in order to view everything, you now scroll through almost the entire page to view all of the content necessary. This reduces the need for navigation tabs, as a viewer can simply continue to scroll down until they locate exactly what they want.
Even though this graphic web design trend doesn’t work for all website and businesses, it certainly is a growing trend and should be considered when creating or updating your website.
So there you go – 5 graphic web design trends you might have missed. Now, whether you decide to apply one or two or all of the above to your website, it will certainly propel your website into the current online world where these graphic web design trends are king. But readers, are there any other trends that I’ve missed? If so let me know in the comments section below!
