1. No Fixed Time for Tweeting

Posting tweets at any time of the day is the very first mistake you need to avoid making on Twitter. When you seek to build a strong following on social media sites like Twitter, you need to let your audience know exactly when to look for tweets from your company. This can be done only by choosing a fixed time every day to send out your tweets

2. Constantly Retweeting Your Brand Mentions

While it is exciting to see your brand being tagged by other Twitter users, it does not mean that you should go ahead and retweet that post just so that you can increase its visibility. You could just like the post instead and leave the retweeting to your followers.

When you constantly keep retweeting your brand mentions, it will just show others that you are trying to upsell your brand. Focus on improving your services to your customers and you are sure to see increasing mentions of your brand without you having to intervene at all.

3. Constantly Retweeting Yourself


Constantly retweeting yourself or asking someone to retweet your posts is by far one of the most terrifying mistakes you can ever make on Twitter. This just gives other Twitter users the idea that you’re an attention-seeker or you are just trying to promote yourself on Twitter.

This is bad for two reasons. The first is that you may be giving your company and personal branding a negative image. The second reason is that you could lose followers as no one would want to follow a person who is only looking for self-praise.

4. Using Unnecessary Hashtags

Using unnecessary hashtags in your tweets should also be avoided as the people who read your tweets might find it a huge nuisance. Writing lengthy hashtags in your tweets like #Thebestwebdesigncompany or #Websitedevelopmentsaskatoon make it difficult for people to understand what you are trying to say.

These type of hashtags make no sense to the reader and if you keep this up then your followers might just ignore reading your posts altogether.


5. Becoming a Twitter Troll

Probably the worst thing you can do on Twitter is troll on other people’s conversations. Internet trolls are those users who tend to post more of negative or insulting comments on other user’s accounts and even aim to incite needless arguments by interrupting sensitive topics.

No one likes an internet troll, so make sure you don’t become one of them. Although you cannot avoid facing trolls at some point or the other, you can, however, learn to deal with them by replying to their tweets skillfully and not getting too emotionally involved.

6. Over-Promoting Your Products/Services

Even though Twitter can help you promote the products and services of your company, you must be careful not to overdo it. If your Twitter feed looks like you are repeatedly posting the same type of promotional tweets every time, then your followers will lose interest in your company.

Use the Twitter account of your company wisely and share interesting and informative tweets with your audience. This will naturally improve the online engagement of your brand on Twitter and thus grow your follower count.

7. Making Too Many Grammatical Errors

This a very common mistake that is often overlooked by many users. Making small grammar or even spelling mistakes could change the whole meaning of a tweet. It can also make you seem incompetent and unprofessional if users see a lot of grammatical errors being made in your tweets, especially if it’s being made on the official Twitter account of your company.

Twitter allows a max of 140 characters per tweet, so it will not take you much time to do a quick proof-read before posting any tweet live. In case you catch the error after posting, you could always delete it and repost the tweet after making the correction. A little effort really goes a long way!
