Digital Marketing Insights

Email marketing has been and will continue to be one of the most effective marketing tools, especially when it comes to generating leads and selling products online. But before you can generate leads and gain sales you need to convince your readers to open your emails and take the next step.

So how do you get them to do that? Well, email marketing might look simple, but it can be pretty tricky if you’re just getting started. Therefore, to help you out and get you on your way to becoming an email marketing expert here are 7 essential rules you need to follow when crafting emails.

1. Create a clear, attention grabbing subject line.

1.9 billion non-spam emails are sent everyday and if you want your readers to open your email it must have a compelling subject line. When creating the subject line ensure it addresses their needs and tells them what they will receive from opening the email. Also, subject lines will get cut-off if they are too long so keep it short, ideally 50 characters or less.

2. Write good content.

At the end of the day if your content is no good, then no one will read your emails. You need to spend time crafting the message you want to send. Ensure the content is relevant and fresh and try to focus on one message per email. If you’re providing value to your prospects and customers they will look forward to your emails and want to to open them.

3. Keep paragraphs short.

There’s nothing worse than good content getting destroyed because your email is too long and nobody wants to read it. People don’t want to read a massive email so make it easy to digest – no more than 3.5 lines per paragraph.

4. Keep the email short too.

The whole email needs to be seen quickly and instantly, so no more than 3.5 paragraphs per email. If they can’t get to the point of your email quickly, they will move onto the next email that is waiting for them to open. So keep it short, sweet and simple.

5. Include relevant images.

Images are great for driving clicks as people simply love images and tend to click on them before they will click on a line of text. Include one or two images and make sure they relate to what you’re offering.

6. Include links to videos.

Videos are an extremely effective way to create engagement and drive sales. You can add them into your emails with a snapshot of the video and a link that takes them to the full video.

7. Have an obvious call-to-action in every email.

Every email you send is a marketing tool and the whole point of sending an email is to get your readers to do something. Make it super easy and enticing for them to take that next step, whether it be downloading a video or purchasing a product. Also, when creating your call-to-action button make sure it stands out on the page and compels your reader to take action.

Email marketing is a very powerful tool for generating leads and sales – when done right. So when you start creating those marketing emails ensure you follow these 7 rules and you’ll be sure to see the results you want!
