Twitter – Tweet Your Way to Success
Creating a Profile
consider using a ‘real’ photo instead of just your logo
people can relate better to a real person instead of a logo ‘robot’
bio – only 160 characters (but 20 more than a Tweet!) so be sure to be descriptive and concise
customize your background
Do some research!
use third party tools like Twellow & Wefollow to search Twitter accounts in your industry
see what they are doing
see what works for them and what doesn’t
Ok, you have a profile…now what?
Build Followers
start by following those in your industry that have a ‘follow back’ policy
you will be able to tell by their ‘Following’ to ‘Followers’ ratio, look for a fairly even dispersion
use TwitterCounter Search
free tool that allows you to easily input data to view your Twitter stats
use Listorious
free tool that lets you search through Lists created by other Twitter users
TweetAdder
automatically finds people to follow based on your search criteria and unfollows people that don’t follow you back within a specified time
again…..Twellow and Wefollow
add your Twitter handle EVERYWHERE! This includes your email signature, website, Facebook, LinkedIn, Blog, etc.
Got all that…now, how do I Tweet Effectively?
Content – the Holy Grail
2/3 others,1/3 yours, this is an acceptable ratio
links that are placed in the front 1/4 to 1/2 of Tweets perform much better than links posted at the end
when retweeting, manual retweeting is the best (as opposed to just hitting the retweet button)
try saying something like ‘thanks for following’ or ‘let us know what you would like to see from us on Twitter’
Direct Messaging – careful!
often seen as spam
don’t push the sale right off the bat
can only DM people that you follow and that follow you back
Timely.is is a great tool to determine best times to Tweet
can schedule posts for your to ensure maximum effectiveness or can opt for ‘post now’
downside, can’t choose the scheduled time to Tweet
Shelf life of a Tweet is only 3 hours
Ok to repeat Tweets to ensure that the Tweet receives maximum visibility (but don’t over do it)
