A recent responsive web design project of ours has been for Sun West School Division (referred to as “SWSD”) located in West-Central Saskatchewan. SWSD is governed by a Board of Education consisting of 9 elected representatives responsible for an overall budget of nearly 60 million dollars. The School Division administers 40 schools, which include fourteen K-12 schools, seven elementary schools, three high schools, and sixteen Hutterite Colony schools.

Web Design

SWSD wanted to redesign their public facing division website to have a more professional look and feel. They also wanted the new website to be exciting and user-friendly, and utilize the latest web design features such as “responsive design” which ensures the website is viewable on all mobile devices. Lastly, it was essential that the maintenance and updating of the new website was easy for SWSD’s website administration.

Taking SWSD’s needs and goals into consideration we were able to create an awesome new website that is attractive, user-friendly and highly functional for all users. As always I encourage you to go take a look for yourself to see what this new website has to offer. But for now, here’s an overview of a few of the main features:

  • Custom CMS – the new website was built using a custom content management system tailored to SWSD’s specific needs. This system enables them to easily manage and maintain the website themselves.
  • Homepage Image Carousel – on the homepage an image carousel with user-activated rotating images was created to show off events happening at the various schools.
  • Social Media Integration – users can now seek out SWSD on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube right from their website.

Now, if you’ve been keeping up with our website launch blogs you have probably noticed a trend that has been emerging with most of the websites we develop. If you haven’t guessed yet, I’m talking about responsive design. Responsive design allows the website and its content to adjust to whatever screen-size area the user has chosen for the browser window. Therefore, the website will work effectively on both desktop browsers and a variety of mobile devices that are currently on the market.

First impressions are huge online nowadays and you want to create a great experience for your user right from the moment they enter your website. If you don’t, they won’t hesitate to move onto the next site (which usually happens to be your competitor). So if you’re thinking about getting a new website developed, whether it’s now or in the future, I strongly recommend going with responsive design, you won’t regret it.

If you haven’t already done so, go check out the new Sun West School Division website. Then let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment below!
