TCU Place new website design and mobile website

In the past 3 years I have had the pleasure of frequenting TCU Place on a number of occasions. I had the opportunity to watch one of my favorite comedians, Billy Connolly, in The Sid Buckwold Theatre in 2010. I’ve experienced the highs and lows of the Premier Festival, held in their Convention Centre. And for the those of you who are wondering, “what lows?”, then clearly you have never been to Premier and taken full advantage of their delights (I highly recommend you do!).

I got to watch one of my favorite bands, the Pixies, which although it was held in an all-seater venue, was awesome. The Pixies are no spring chickens, and neither were the audience, so stage diving or “moshing” was clearly out of the picture. To me, I thought with no actual standing room, it would suck, but it was enjoyable to actually watch the band and listen.

Website Design Goals

Even though I am a relatively new resident to Saskatoon, having had the chance to experience both of TCU Place’s venues, The Sid Buckwold Theatre and The Convention Centre, I was surprised to hear how many locals were unaware of this. A close family member had heard of The Sid Buckwold Theatre, but had no idea it was inside TCU Place. Similarly, a friend of mine thought TCU Place was just the one venue and it was called TCU Place.

Therefore, and unsurprisingly to us here at the 2 Web Design office, this was an issue that needed to be addressed in the redesign of the TCU Place website. The new website had to effectively promote both of their venues equally.

Along with this primary goal, TCU Place’s secondary goals included:

  • Complete restructure of website navigation.
  • Create a new color scheme / palette that reflects their branding initiatives.
  • Reorganize how the content is laid out on the website.
  • Make the new website easily accessible on mobile devices.
  • The development of a members only area.

The New Website

The new design instantly draws the users attention to both The Sid Buckwold Theatre and The Convention Centre. The user then has the option to click on either and be redirected to more information regarding the events held at either venue.

Developed using a custom CMS, so TCU Place’s website admin can easily manage the website, the new website features an array of new and improved functionality including:

  • A customized Intranet was created to generate an online community amongst all their employees and board members.
  • An events calendar for each venue to promote upcoming shows and events.
  • A module to provide detailed information on The Convention Centre’s facilities and services.
  • A photo gallery to display the many images taken throughout the many shows, events, concerts, etc.
  • SEO to help raise awareness and drive targeted traffic to the website.
  • A custom “Win Tickets” module.
  • The design and development of a custom Blog.

A mobile website was part of this project too. With the majority of TCU Place users accessing the website on their mobile devices, it was important for the new website to be respective of this.

What do you think of the new website? Is it much improved compared to the previous site? And what about the mobile website? Please let us know below!
