Should you cover your webcam?

November 04 – A recent article published by The Verge has brought up an important point: Should you cover your computer’s webcam? It’s a valid point considering hackers can access your camera for nefarious purposes. But does it make a difference to cover it up?

Unfortunately, it does not. Most devices these days have a built-in camera and microphone, so unless you’re living life as a hermit alone in the woods, chances are you are in contact with a wifi-enabled device at some point during your day. And audio recordings can be just as incriminating as video.

So, long story short, just continue to be your weird self but be cognizant of the fact that hackers are probably watching and/or listening to you at all times.

AI bot managing investments

November 01 – You’ve probably heard me ramble about the rise of Artificial Intelligence over the past few weeks. Cue the Led Zeppelin because I am going to continue to ramble on. For the first time in human history, an AI bot is managing an investment portfolio. And it’s a Canadian company leading the way.

The AI bot is named MIND and is set to manage an Exchange Traded Fund or ETF. The goal of MIND is to outsmart humans at their own game, creating more wealth with a reason-based approach.

Only time will tell if humans can survive the rise of the machines.

San Francisco gets fiber optic network

October 25 – San Francisco is looking to become the first major city in North America to connect every home and business via a fiber optic network. For most people living in an urban center, having access to a fiber optic network has become commonplace but what separates the wheat from the chaff here is that EVERY SINGLE PERSON will have access to virtually unlimited bandwidth.

Places like Edmonton, Alberta, and Chattanooga, Tennessee have seen huge boosts in their local economies through a ubiquitous implementation of fiber optic networks.

The future is here people!
