Instagram Announces Disappearing Live Video Stories and  DM’s

Nov. 21, 2016 – Instagram launches “new” ways to share freely and in the moment. I put new in quotation marks because there isn’t really anything new about it. (Ever heard of Snapchat?) Now you will be able to share videos and direct messages that will remove themselves after they’ve been viewed!

It seems to me like ephemeral marketing isn’t going anywhere fast as more and more platforms are adopting this style. I suggest you take this opportunity to get familiar with this new style of marketing, try broadcasting your participation in an event, creating something that can be consumed in a moment and but isn’t quite worthy of long-term preservation.

Facebook Announces Another Metric Bug

Nov. 16, 2016 – Facebook admits to uncovering another bug in their metrics. This time it is for organic reach page insights. On average, your accurate reach is 33%-55% lower than they said it was.

Now don’t go throwing in the towel on Facebook yet. It is STILL the 3rd most visited site on the web1.

However what you could (and probably should) do is really track the referral traffic from social media and the customers resulting actions, and perhaps look to develop other more targeted or trackable distribution models.

Twitter Releases Holiday Insights Study

twitter-report

Nov. 15, 2016 – Twitter shares ideas how to tap into mobile shoppers in store using Twitter. They recommend featuring holiday deals, coupons, product reviews, and price comparisons.

“With 70% of respondents using their phones to look for deals while they shop and 43% likely to visit a store after seeing a deal on Twitter, there is a large opportunity to surface this information and increase purchases.” For more, checkout the Moment:

Pinterest Launches Promoted Vids and New Ways to Explore

Nov. 15, 2016 – Pinterest is testing auto-play of promoted videos for a handful of brands in the US and UK.

Check out an example of the vids from Sony:

Pinterest has also rolled out Explorea curated list of today’s top picks from what’s trending on Pinterest. I saw this feature on the weekend and was so excited about it. Actually just everything about Pinterest makes me excited.

Until next Tuesday…
