It’s -20 outside, and there’s snow on the ground. Now, for most people this means that winter is definitely here and Christmas is right around the corner. That is true, but it also means we’re almost at the end of yet another year (is it me or does time seem to speed up the older you get?) and we’re about to be plagued by a variety of “Top 10” lists.
Well folks, I’m sorry to say that this blog post is no exception. Having scoured the internet for the “Top 10 Viral Videos of 2012” (it literally took me 10 minutes via Google and YouTube), I present to you the 10 most shared videos of this year, in descending order:
10. Arrested Drunk Guy Sings Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’
Oh Canada! In 10th place is 29-year-old Robert Wilkinson, from Edson, AB. Arrested by the RCMP for being, well, completely hammered, and pleading his innocence in slurred speech, he decided to describe his ordeal by the power of song.
9. Donna the Deer Lady
Poor Donna. For all these years, and after being involved in 3 deer-related car accidents, she decided to call her local radio station to try and find out why “deer crossings” signs are in such a “high traffic area”? Even the radio host was speechless.
8. Proctor & Gamble – Best Job
Get your tissues ready…
7. Goyte – Somebody That I Used To Know
This is a great song that has been played everywhere, including Glee (is that the bar now to gauge how popular a song is?). However, the video is awesome and it has gone on to spawn a whole host of parodies.
6. Catch the Ice Dude
Ouch! (WARNING: Explicit language in English, but with a German accent).
5. Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe
I’m sure we’re all sick and tired of this song (hence no video).
4. Opera Duo – Britain’s Got Talent
Rule Britannia! I quite honestly thought after the deluge of “talent” we have on the TV in UK (thanks X Factor for your pantomime-antics), that we’d never actually see real talent again. Boy, was I wrong.
3. A Dramatic Surprise on a Quiet Square
This is awesome. If you haven’t seen it, I’m saying nothing. Just watch.
2. Gangnam Style
I’m at a loss on this one. I used to live in Korea, in Gangnam itself, and there’s about 25 different boy and girl bands churning out songs of this quality. But PSY, the Korean parody-artist, somehow breaks through into the international market? It has to be because of the dancing…
1. Kony 2012
Doesn’t this seem like a lifetime ago? But it’s no surprise that it ranks number 1. This video notched up 100 million views by day 6 and has since become the most viral video in history. However, as we all know this project was kinda short lived since the video’s creator, Jason Russell, had a complete meltdown.
Do you have a spare 30 minutes to watch it again? Go on, for old time’s sake.
So there you have it, The Top 10 Viral Videos of 2012. What was your favorite?
