Case Study – City of Humboldt

City of Humboldt

Overview

With a current population of about 6,000, City of Humboldt offers big-city amenities coupled with small-town charm. There is something for everyone in Humboldt. They offer a range of recreation, educational, and retail facilities combined with their friendly community spirit. A great place to call home!

The Challenges

New technologies and trends require municipalities to think and act creatively and innovatively to take advantage of these service delivery changes. Not only was the City of Humboldt website dated and overloaded (with questionably organized yet valuable information), but also the website was not accessible by residents on-the-go.

City of Humboldt needed the sites to be accessible on mobile devices, aligned with current branding, and fast-loading. They also wanted some help with reorganizing the information that is available on their site. We worked with the City to simultaneously redesign their municipal and library sites.

The Solution

Our focus on improving user experience led us to implementing “I want to” hotlinks that make it easy for citizens to locate exactly what they are looking for as well as a sitewide search for direct access to specific information.

We worked with the City to create an up-to-date business directory to showcase the city’s products and services.

To efficiently distribute information, we implemented a e-news sign up so that citizens can stay in the know with the regular newsletter, a news area that shares all of the latest community updates as well as an events calendar to highlight community happenings. To boost resident engagement, we created a form for citizens to submit their own events.

The Results

The new and custom content management system makes it super easy for site admin to manage and update the content whenever, wherever! It allows staff to easily manage and inform citizens with no additional training or skills required.

We also provide ongoing technical support and maintenance to guarantee City of Humboldt’s online success. This includes quarterly website analysis reports that show them the results of their efforts.

Users are able to access a variety of common citizen activities under the “I want to” navigation. They can also use the search bar to directly access whatever they are looking for. To receive up to date communications from the City, citizens can sign up for the e-news or check out the latest news and events on the site.

The City of Humboldt website was awarded a 2015 WebAward for Outstanding Website and Honourable Mention 2015 Hermes Creative award for Government Website.
