Digital Marketing Insights

So how have your social media conversations been for the past week? Much improved or did someone mention SEO? Or Tumblr? (I know what you’re thinking, where did the ‘e’ go?)

Before we continue with part two of our ABC Guide to Social Media, for those of you who haven`t already done so, we encourage you to read part one, before continuing on. We`ll be honest, it`s not going to change the world whether you read part one or not, but won`t you get more satisfaction knowing that you read this whole thing from start to finish? You wouldn`t watch Empire Strikes Back then Return of the Jedi without watching A New Hope first would you? WOULD YOU? I didn`t think so. Ready? Let`s continue.

MEME

This is used to describe an idea, joke, concept, etc., that can be shared online.

NEWS FEED

Like what it says on the tin. A constant feed of news.

OPERA

An open-source web browser used as the default on some gaming systems and mobile devices.

PODCAST

A series of digital media files, either audio or visual, released episodically online (you`ll need iTunes downloaded to view this link).

QIK

An online video streaming service allowing users to stream video live from their mobile phones to the web.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication)

The direct delivery of content (blogs, news stories, headlines) to users, enabling them to stay current with their favorite publication without having to browse from site to site.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

The process of modifying your website content to achieve better search results in search engines like Google.

TUMBLR

Allows users to share content (text, photos, quotes, links, music) in the form of a blog.

URL (Ultimate Resource Locator)

To people like you and me a website’s address, i.e. www.websitename.com.

VIMEO

A popular video sharing service that allows users to upload their videos (not commercial content videos though!) to be shared and watched by others.

WIKIPEDIA

A free online collaborative and multilingual encyclopedia.

2 Web Design Warning! The majority of the millions of articles on Wikipedia have been created by a multitude of volunteers from around the world, so if I was you, before you use it as a resource for that extremely important paper, it’s best to double check your facts first.

XBOX

A game console. It’s the best I can do. I’ll be honest, I struggled with X.

YOUTUBE

If you don’t know what this is, then it’s best you go back under that rock.

ZOOOMR

An online photo sharing service similar to Flickr.

And there you go! You`re all finished.

Just think the next time you`re sat there with your friends, family, or colleagues, and hear, “Blah blah blah app, blah blah blah social media stuff, blah blah blah”, even though it may still sound like this to you, at least you`ll have some semblance of what they`re actually talking about. And you never know, you might just mention you`ve updated you`re Facebook account for the first time in a year. Or, better still, you`re on Twitter! That`ll blow their freaking minds!
