Sask Innovation Week is an annual week-long celebration of all things innovative in Saskatchewan. This years event is to be held from October 21 to 26 and will be held at Innovation Place – which is where 2 Web Design are based too! So lucky for us, we’re just a hop, skip, and jump away from this celebration that is dedicated to made-in-Saskatchewan ideas, the people behind them, and the impact these elements are having on the province, the country, and the world.
Website Project
As a close neighbor we’ve been involved with Sask Innovation Week’s online presence for the past 2 years. The original design we created for them in 2012, although was fitting at the time, after the event we decided to conduct some analysis to gauge their audience’s interaction with the website.
By looking at the traffic from the event, we realized there was a significant amount of mobile activity. The problem here though was Sask Innovation Week didn’t have a mobile version of the website. OMG! I know, right?
As I’m sure you know, a website that is not optimized for mobile devices is – to be polite – frustrating. However, once we found out these stats we then provided a great solution – a responsive design!
Responsive Web Design
Now for those of you who are unaware of responsive web design – then firstly get your head out of the sand! It’s 2013 – the year of responsive design!
By incorporating this “innovative” design element (oh snap!) it allows for a better presentation of their website content on mobile devices as the design adapts to the orientation of the browser. However, prior to the responsive element of this project, the design team undertook a complete redesign of the website to give it a new fresh look and feel before the event kicks-off in October.
You can stay up-t0-date with all things “Innovative” by following Sask Innovation Week on Twitter or by liking them on Facebook. Or better still why not join the discussion on their LinkedIn group?
